Steamer Lane Bead, Santa Cruz
Steamer Lane is a famous spot in Santa Cruz, California. Breaking just off the point at West Cliff, this place got its name in the 1930’s when student Claude Horan and his friend Wes Hammond hired steamships to create swell on flat days! This is a popular and often crowded spot due to its consist and sheltered waves, the viewing point from above the cliffs makes it a great spot for spectators too.
The inspiration behind this bead was to capture the hues of the sea and waves whilst giving depth to the bead. We achieved this by encasing translucent colours over a white base bead and then wrapping it in a thin line of opaque pearl grey glass with a twist to represent the shape of the waves.
