Mammoth Mountain Bead
Mammoth Mountain is a lava dome complex west of Mammoth Lakes, California. The domes formed from eruptions that occurred 57000-110000 years ago and the volcano is still active today. The Mammoth ski area runs along the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range founded by Dave McCoy in 1953. Many people come to practice and complete the world famous super pipe and super-duper pipe.
We wanted to create a dramatic contrast with this bead and represent the pure white snow of the mountains against its surroundings. To achieve this we used black and white glass. The black glass and series of bubbles represent the iconic gondola ride, which gives panoramic views over the Sierra Nevada peaks and San Joaquin River Valley. The white glass is then heated and wrapped around each side of the bead too give a window effect.
