African Beaded Bangles

Sale price£35.00

We recently came across these lovely little beads made by Ghanaian bead maker Yonanes Nahr from Koforidua, Ghana. He makes these amazing little recycled glass beads especially for the African Fabric Shop, a wonderful little Fairtrade shop based in Yorkshire.

After finding these and just had to make something special with them! So we asked our talented friend, Amelie Woodley to come up with a fun design and here they are...

Introducing our NEW Limited Edition African Beaded Bangles!

We have used a durable coiled memory wire, threaded the beads and recycled silver tubes onto it and finished each one with our 'Nalu' tag to create colourful 'springy' bangles. Each bead measures approximately 60mm/ 2 1/2in across and they wrap around three times, these are very flexible so could be worn tighter or looser!

These tiny little colourful beads are handmade from recycled glass Yohanes has found himself. The glass is smashed into a fine powder before being mixed with ceramic dye. This powder mix is then placed in moulds with a tiny cassava stack in the centre of each bead cavity to create the core of the bead. These moulds are then fired in Yohanes's basic wood fired kiln until the intense heat fused the powder into the shape of a bead. Once the beads have been cooled from the kiln, they are polished in a concave stone using a light mix of sand and water.

These bangles are made in our studio in North Devon and may vary slightly to images on the website. Only available while stocks last!
