Lanai is the sixth largest island of the Hawaiian Islands, it is also known as the ‘Pineapple Island’ after its pineapple plantations. Much of Lanai is still only accessible by dirt track and has plenty of history from the ancient fishing village of Kaunalu to ancient petroglyphs, drawings and carvings in the rocks. It is the perfect spot for surfers as it has many beaches on its 18 miles of coastline. It is also popular for snorkelling and diving as well as a good spot for whale watching. Kaiolohia (Shipwreck Beach) has a rusted WW2 ship not too far from the beach and can be seen from the coastline.

The inspiration for this bead was to bring our collection together by using influences from the sea, beach and Hawaii’s flora and fauna. The Monro trail is at the highest point on Lanai where you can discover a whole new world of wildlife, plants and flowers which we wanted to incorporate into our bead. We have created flowers by layering up glass in yellow, white and rubino orange with a centre of amethyst glass.
