Downderry is a coastal village in South East Cornwall, 18 miles west of Plymouth. The beach is long, part shingle and part sand. At low tide it has many rock pools to explore. There are two notable reef breaks for surfers and is also popular with rock climbers too.
Our beautiful Downderry Beach bead takes its inspiration from the surrounding coastline, rock pools and the water glistening on the sand at low tide. We created a gravity swirl bead, which is a technique that heats up different coloured glass at such a high temperature they begin to mix together. The bead is then rolled in shimmering mica powder, which will sparkle when encased. This shimmering represents the seafoam and the bubbling waves as they roll up and down the beach. The bead is then carefully rolled in aqua blue frit, tiny shards of coloured glass, to represent the water found within the rock pools.
Each Nalu Bead is individually handmade so please expect there to be variations in patterns and colours, this is what makes your Nalu Bead unique.
