NALU BEADS LAUNCH CHARITY BEAD IN SUPPORT OF SURF LIFE SAVING GB -

Surf Life Saving GB and Nalu Beads are delighted to announce the launch of the ‘Surf Life Saving bead’, to raise money for Surf Life Saving GB (SLSGB) charity.

Proceeds from the sale of every bead will be donated to SLSGB, to help share vital lifesaving skills and beach education to the community, to make people safer by the sea.

With a head office in Exeter, SLSGB is proud to be working with another Devon-based company – Nalu Beads is based in Braunton, north Devon. The Surf Life Saving bead will be available through SLSGB, online and across Nalu Beads stockists nationwide.

The Surf Life Saving Nalu Bead, like all Nalu Beads, is individually hand-made using the finest Effetre Murano glass from Italy, and depicts the classic lifesaving colours of red and yellow, with a wave effect through the middle.

SLSGB is a charity of over 5,000 volunteers nationwide, with nearly 40 Surf Life Saving Clubs in the Devon and Cornwall region alone. SLSGB members provide beach lifeguard training, community beach education and volunteer beach lifeguard patrols. Members also compete in Life Saving Sport – the sport of Lifeguards – to hone their lifesaving skills.

Esther Pearson, chief executive of Surf Life Saving GB said:

“This is the start of an exciting new partnership and we’re really proud of the Surf Life Saving Bead. We hope the beads not only raise vital funds to continue and increase the work we’re doing, but also help spread awareness of the great work SLSGB clubs and members are doing to make people safer on our beaches.”

Nalu Beads Director Lisa Adams said:

“We are involved with our local Surf Life Saving Club so know the fantastic work SLSGB clubs do to make many beaches around the UK safer places to be. We wanted to support the hard work everyone is doing, and to help SLSGB take important beach safety information and training to even more people.”

The SLSGB bead will retail for £10.95 and be available from 16th April at www.nalubeads.com and through their stockists, and through Surf Life Saving GB.

Nalu Beads Save The UKPSA Ladies Tour Crown - 8th November 2011

Recipes for a fairytale; damsel in distress, the baddy and a knight in shining armour. Except our tale is a little different. Just as Cinders is sat scrubbing the floor, unable to attend the ball, along comes her Fairy Godmother.

The season was about to be cut short for the UK Pro Surf women with the final date on the diary cancelled due to lack of sponsorship. Nalu Beads have waved their magic wand and saved the fair Maidens looking at battling it out for the Ladies Tour Crown.

Nalu Bead’s Queen of Queens contest will run this weekend seeing the overall Ladies champion for 2011 decided at Fistral Beach.

Lisa Adam’s of Nalu Beads said “It’s fantastic to get the opportunity to support Women’s Surfing in this country. We were involved with the British event recently and to see the girls paddling out in such big waves with commitment and bravery, they really are role models we want to be encouraging. The fact we can ensure the final women’s UK Pro Surf event goes ahead is just brilliant and we are so excited at the opportunity.”

The contest will run this weekend with entries being taken at the UKPSA office. So Cinder’s can go to the Ball after all — or in this case the UK Pro Surf Awards which will be hosted Sunday evening at the Esplanade Hotel. Tickets are £25 available from the office on 01637854854

To celebrate Nalu Beads are running a contest in conjunction with SurfGirl. There’s £100 worth of Nalu Beads bracelet up for grabs, complete with a silver heart fastener — head to www.surfgirlmag.com and tell us: If you were to design a Nalu Bead what would it be? Give us the name, choice of colours and why. Winner will be chosen on the 30th of November. For inspiration check out www.nalubeads.com

BSUPA National Championships, Watergate Bay - October 2011

BSUPA Event Poster

Britain’s stand-up paddlesurf (SUP) champions will be decided in a winner-takes-all national championship event at Watergate Bay in October.

The Extreme Academy will host the British Stand Up Paddle Association (BSUPA) championships on the weekend of 15th and 16th October 2011 in an event which will attract the UK’s best exponents of this emerging form of surfing.

Competitors will take part in two different disciplines, with divisions for men and women. A long-distance ocean paddle race will see competitors cover up to five miles, requiring skill, technique and stamina; while wave-riding skills will be tested in a performance surfing competition.

Competition organiser Richard Marsh said: “Watergate Bay is one of the UK’s premier watersports venues; from its consistent surf conditions to the natural amphitheatre, it gives competitors the opportunity to showcase their skills, and spectators the chance to see the action.”

The surfing competition in which competitors will show off their tricks on the waves will take place on Saturday, with the distance race from Watergate Bay to Porth and back taking place on Sunday.

Also taking place on the Sunday is the Westcountry Watersports Wave Expression competition, followed at 3pm by a prize giving ceremony.

As well as competing for the championship, the surfers will also battle it out for the coveted title of ’Watergate Bay Waterman’ sponsored by The Beach Hut. This fiercely coveted title will be awarded to the competitor with the highest combined score from both the men’s wave and distance competitions, who will win a meal for two at The Beach Hut restaurant.

For more information on the event go to www.ipaddleboard.co.uk — for entries please contact the event organiser, Richard Marsh, by emailing masthighltd@me.com.

Team News - 19th October 2010

Croyde's Laura Crane has been selected to represent GB at the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship, with the completion of the 4th and final ranking contest held in Woolacombe recently.

Simon  Tucker, performance director for the British Surf Association said "I am very happy with the team, they have worked hard and deserve their place in the team. We will now work with them to get them as ready as we can for the World's, which will be held in wave rich Costa Verde, Lima, Peru from April 30 to May 8, 2011.

Corinne Evans has an extremely full diary of recent. The Nalu Beads surfer from Newquay, is so busy with modelling assignments, study and work with GroundSwell and other charity projects, that before you know it the Errant Girls Surfing Weekend will already be upon us. And yes... Nalu beads will be there too, this weekend 23/24 October, at the Errant school in Newquay. For further details and to keep abreast of Corinnes busy schedule log onto her blogspot here.

Nalu beads have also recently signed up wakeboard sensation Alexis Balladon and just in time too... It's been a great summer for her, lots of podium finishes, new sponsors and fun ladies mornings!

Lex gives us the lowdown on an exciting year so far, 'This Summer I was lined up with Slingshot again, but also got some new sponsors: WakeMK, Two Seasons and of course Nalu Beads!  I also managed to get a profile up on Expix which is awesome!'

Lex coaches Ladies Mornings all summer long. No not cucumber sandwiches and swapping knitting patterns! Once every month at Box End Park and also a couple at WakeMK, which also included Slingshot Demo Days.  Every coaching session I do, I always make sure I have some prizes to give out from Nalu Beads and Two Seasons to give the ladies something fun to aim for.

Not only busy sponsor sessions, but Lex has had a really fun year riding at all the competitions around the country, getting to ride so many cables too.  Lex's only regret was wishing she could have travelled out to the WWA Worlds, but hey maybe next year?

Nalu Beads and our Wake team rider Lex Balladon support Ladies Morning at Box End Park - September 2010

On Sunday the 29th August it was Ladies Morning down at Box End Park.  The weather was not the bright sun we had hoped for but intstead it was a little chilly with all the wind, but the ladies still came to have some fun on the water.  There was a group of newbies who were doing well with their kneeboards, all of them progressed onto easy-up wakeboards.  There were some ladies trying new tricks such as surface 360’s, riding switch around the whole cable and some getting to grips with the kickers.  One of the girls was practicing her new raleys!

This month we gave the Nalu Beads Prize to Emily!  She has only just started wakeboarding, she was getting up most of the time and even trying jump starts.  She managed to get the whole way around the cable riding in switch which is a great effort for someone who has only tried wakeboarding a couple of times.  By the end of the morning Emily was even starting to try a few little bunny hops to progress onto some bigger ollies.  Well done Emily!

The next Ladies Morning is on the 26th September where there will be more prizes from Nalu Beads up for grabs!  See you on the water :)
